If you want a piece of modern art in your home, but have no idea where to start, I find having some connection to the artist is helpful. So take the time to research the artist – in this case, @simonebrewster_london is a London based artist creating large scale, statement sculptural furniture and objet d’art and jewellery. And she’s recently taken a stand against a practice that is sadly far too common in design – larger businesses taking advantage of smaller, individual creators.
She holds a degree in Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London and an MA, Design Products from the Royal College of Art.
Using this she seamlessly works across scales, from jewellery and furniture, and beyond. Her collections explore ‘intimate architectures’ – creating objects and spaces that utilise architectural principals throughout.
Simone’s work has been exhibited at the British Embassy during the London 2012 Olympic Games as an example of British Design Talent, The Royal College of Art 175 Year Anniversary Exhibition, Collect at the Saatchi Gallery, amongst many other domestic and international exhibitions.
Brewster is regularly invited as a public speaker on contemporary design and educates on the potential applications of architectural principals across the scale and spectrum of three dimensional design.
Coming from an architectural background, when making or designing an item, I approach it from the space it will inhabit and the atmosphere- both emotionally and physically, it will generate.

From an ongoing series Woman in Parts, these original hand paintings are executed on heavy weight paper. Inky female forms are abstracted, deconstructed and recomposed. The series explores the landscape of the female mind and body as a reflection of the pressures and expectations of society. As a result the paintings capture the beauty, strength, tension and confusion of womanhood.
Each painting is signed on the front with title to the reverse.
